We know that the world of skincare products can be difficult to navigate so we've tried to highlight some of the most common products here with a simple glossary of commonly used ingredients. 
Firstly, let's start with the basics on skin serums: 
What is Serum? 
Serums hold the active ingredients that address specific skincare issues. A little goes a long way with these products so you don't need much of it.
Types of Serum: 
(1) A clever cocktail of ingredients that nourish general skin health.
(2) Focusing on one singular ingredient, skin type or issue.

Anti-oxidant - Antioxidants are compounds that inhibit oxidation. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that can produce free radicals, thereby leading to chain reactions that may damage the cells of organisms.


Cucumber has excellent anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe the skin and give you a glowing blemish-free skin. While leaving your skin feeling hydrated and moisturised.


Cucumber Seed Oil has anti-ageing, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties which may help improve the firmness and elasticity of your skin and promote cell regeneration


Free Radicals - They are responsible for breaking down our skin's collagen, resulting in unflattering skin blemishes like wrinkling, dark spots, fine lines and loose, saggy skin.


Gotu Kola helps keep the skin tight and firm. Boosts the production of collagen, protects against environmental stressors and reduces the impacts of ageing on the skin. Not only does it stimulating collagen production but it also has antioxidant power to mitigate the damage of UV exposure and free radical damage.


Hyaluronic acid is a natural compound found in the skin that has many important functions, including holding in moisture, providing cushioning, aiding in tissue repair, holding together the skin structural components collagen and elastin. 

 

Hyaluronic Acid draws up to 1000 times its weight in water to the top layers of the skin, making it the absolute hero for dehydrated or dry complexions. It really helps prevent fine lines and wrinkles.


Liquorice root may have potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial effects. 


Papaya is great for nourishing the skin. It contains Vitamin A, C and Papain enzyme act as a powerful exfoliator which helps to gently breakdown and digest proteins that have accumulated on the skin. ... Its natural and effective exfoliating properties brighten the skin by removing dead skin cells and flaky patches on the top layer of your skin!


Papaya is a miracle ingredient which is full of a rich array of antioxidants and enzymes to give your skin a healthy glow and moisturise it at the same time. That's why it's an active ingredient in our Daily Moisturiser.


Pineapple is rich in both antioxidant vitamin C & the enzyme bromelain which supports the production of collagen and brightens the complexion. It helps to gently exfoliate the skin! It also helps brighten and even out skin tone.

 

Reservatrol improves the elasticity of the delicate skin around the eyes, reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines and helps to reduce dark circles and puffiness. Also, a powerful anti-oxidant which may help neutralise free radical damage, stimulate collagen production.

 

Retinol is a Vitamin A derivative that has become the skincare ingredient of the decade. Powerful and multitasking, Retinol improves texture, tone, acne and lines to give you the clearest complexion you’ve ever had. Start small (it is rather sensitising) with Medik8’s 0.3 per cent 3TR, which is based in a nourishing body of squalene.

Salicylic Acid is the only acid that can dissolve oil; hence being the perfect ingredient to tackle greasy skin. It works by exfoliating the inside walls of your pores, cleaning out dirt, debris and bacteria and giving the looks of smaller, tighter pores. Blackheads, be gone.

Sea Buckthorn promotes skin hydration, elasticity, cell regeneration, and even helps treat and prevent acne. Sea Buckthorn oil has anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce swelling and redness associated with many skin conditions, including eczema, psoriasis and rosacea.


Sea Buckthorn is rich in vitamin A & C, both which help to soothe skin conditions and improve anti-ageing concerns such as skin hydration levels, elasticity and regeneration.


Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that can help our damaged skin to recover and can protect it from future damage. It promotes collagen production, which subsequently plumps the skin and results in radiance and smoothness.

Vitamin C serum antioxidant will do everything from brightening dull skin, even tone, tackle pigmentation, stimulate collagen and neutralise free radicals. It has a reservoir effect, which means the actives are slowly released over 72 hours – a genius move that limits any potential inflammation. 

White Willow Bark helps to exfoliate your skin by sloughing off dead skin cells, making way for fresh, bright and radiant skin. This natural extract acts as an anti-inflammatory that helps alleviate the redness, pain, and swelling that are associated with both acne and allergies and sensitivities.

Handy Tip: Always go from the thinnest to the thickest product and allow it to sink into the skin, 30-60 seconds.
